Remington 1898 Double Barrel Shotgun

SERIAL NUMBER 7 REMINGTON HEPBURN DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN Description: I believe this to be an experimental or prototype. I have never seen or heard of another one like it. There are two models of Remington double barrel shotguns that fall into the serial number range you give, The Model 1889 and the Model 1900. The Model 1899 is an outside hammer gun while the Model 1900 is a hammerless so your gun is a Model 1899 and was made in 1905. Serial numbers of the Remington Arms Co.' S New Model Double Barrel Shot Gun (aka Model 1889), began at 30000 and by 1900 had passed 100000. That got numbers overlapping with the serial numbers of the Remington Hammerless Double Barrel Shot Gun (aka Model 1894) which began at 100000, so Remington jumped the serial numbers of the 1889 to 200000.
